The Secretary of State for Scotland, Douglas Alexander MP, kindly allowed Andrew, in his capacity as Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, to host Aberdeen Football Club, the current holders of the Scottish Cup, at Dover House.
During the event, the Secretary of State congratulated the club on their outstanding success and commended the Aberdeen FC Community Trust for its exceptional contribution to the City and wider region. He praised the Trust’s work in supporting education, health, and wellbeing initiatives, and in helping people of all ages and backgrounds reach their potential through the power of sport and community engagement.
Andrew echoed these sentiments, reflecting on the pride that Aberdeen FC brings to the North East, not only through success on the pitch but through its positive impact off it. He highlighted how the Community Trust has become a vital force for good, from supporting local schools and tackling social isolation, to promoting physical activity and creating opportunities for young people.
The event was a celebration not only of Aberdeen FC’s historic Scottish Cup win, but also of the club’s deep and enduring connection with its supporters and community. The strong turnout from Members of Parliament and Peers from across Scotland at Dover House underscored the Club’s impact and it's commitment to using football as a vehicle for positive change across Aberdeen and beyond.
