Andrew Bowie has given his backing to the Space Industry Bill.
It will allow private companies, such as Virgin Galactic, to launch passenger rockets out of the Earth’s atmosphere.
Mr Bowie said: “We know in the North-east that Scotland is Europe’s energy capital and there’s no reason it can’t be the UK’s space capital. Scotland’s wide-open spaces are well-suited to take advantage of the development of private space flight. We already have fantastic airports and there is no reason we should not share in the riches brought by spaceports.”
