At the first bill committee meeting for the Labour Government’s Great British Energy Bill Andrew joined colleagues in questioning the newly appointed chairman, Juergen Maier.
During his first appearance before the committee Mr Maier faced questions around what exactly the new body will do and how many jobs it will deliver to North East Scotland.
In response Mr Maier stated that there would be offices also in Edinburgh and Glasgow but wouldn’t put an exact number on how many jobs would be created in Aberdeen. After being pressed Mr Mair stated that “it will be in the hundreds…may eventually be 1,000 or more”
Speaking after the committee meeting Andrew said, "The fact the chairman still couldn’t give us a concrete figure on how many jobs GB Energy will create raises suspicions this will bring nothing more to Aberdeen than a small office with a plaque.
"Serious questions remain over GB Energy, which won’t compensate for the hammer-blow Labour’s stance on oil and gas has already delivered to the North East.
"While other offices are also planned for Glasgow and Edinburgh, this gimmick is little more than a consolation in an attempt to distract from the danger their policies pose to North East jobs and our energy security."
